The Islip Arts Council Presents the Chamber Music Series for 2008 2009 |
Conversations at our spring chamber music concerts are focusing on the upcoming programs of the thirty
first season. Recitals by four world-renowned ensembles are on the roster for the 2008-2009 season
providing, as always, superb performances at modest prices, without the hassle of long rides, tolls, traffic
tie-ups and expensive parking fees.
The new series features an outstanding array of ensembles in our gem of a concert hall, the David Jones Auditorium at Sayville Middle School.
The St. Petersburg String Quartet will perform on Saturday, October 18 th. A “Flawless ensemble… The St. Petersburg Quartet ennobles the music.” (New York Times.)
On November 8 th, will feature the Trio Solisti, which “has succeeded the Beaux Arts Trio as the
outstandingchamber music ensemble of its kind.” (Wall Street Journal)
2009 will bring the Johannes Quartet which will perform the world premiere of a quartet by the renowned
Essa Pekka Salonen on March 28 th.
The Season ends on April 25 th with a concert by the exceptional Brentano Quartet whosemusic making
reveals “exceptional insight and communicative gifts”. (Daily Telegraph-London)
The four concert subscription costs $90, a savings of $30 over the single ticket price of $30. Subscribers
will also enjoy a $5 discount on additional single tickets to any of our concerts as well as a 10% discount

Coming from JFK Airport:
- Take the Belt Parkway east to Southern State Parkway (exit 25) east.
- Take Southern State eastbound
- to Sunrise Highway (exit 44E) east.
- Take Sunrise Highwayeast to exit 49.
- When you get off at exit 49, cross over Lakeland Avenue (first traffic light) and go to the next traffic light, which is Johnson Avenue.
- Go right on Johnson Avenue, heading south, for approx 1/4 mile.
- Sayville Middle School is on the left. Go into the second parking lot, as it is easier to get into the auditorium from that side.
Coming from George Washington Bridge:
- Take I-295 south via exit 12 toward Throgs Neck Bridge.
- Go over Throg’s Neck Bridge (toll) and take Cross Island Parkway exit toward Eastern Long Island
- Merge onto Cross Island Parkway south
- Take Cross Island Parkway south to the Long Island Expressway (exit 30E) east
- Take the LI Expwy east to Veterans Highway /Rte 454(exit 57)
- Take Veterans Highway/ Rte 454 south (right turn) for 5 miles
- Go right on Johnson Avenue for a mile and a half
- The Sayville Middle School is on the left after you go over Sunrise Highway.
- Go into the second parking lot, as it is easier to get into the auditorium from that side.
Coming from the Whitestone or Throg’s Neck Bridges:
- Go south over bridge to Cross Island Parkway south
- Take Cross Island Parkway south to the Long Island Expressway (exit 30E) east
- Take the LI Expwy east to Veterans Highway /Rte 454(exit 57)
- Take Veterans Highway/ Rte 454 south (right turn) for 5 miles
- Go right on Johnson Avenue for a mile and a half
