The Discover Music Series is a new musical outreach program at the East Islip Public Library, 381 Montauk Highway in East Islip.
This series features 1-hour-long history and live performances by an eclectic, entertaining and very talented variety of musicians.
All programs are on Thursdays and begin at 7 PM. Seating is limited, and is on a first-come basis. The Library is handicapped accessible.

Gregory Harrington A lecture recital of the solo violin music of Bach work
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Gregory Harrington has performed extensively as recitalist and soloist with orchestras around the world.   He has toured and performed as soloist in venues throughout the US and Europe such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Town Hall. Gregory Harrington's dedication to 20th century and contemporary music is highlighted through close contacts with several eminent composers, including American composers Steve Gerber, Meira Warshauer and Scottish composer James MacMillan. Now, he will grace East Islip Public Library to demonstrate and discuss the solo violin of Bach.

Shenole Latimer    What's All That Jazz About?

Through a carefully balanced combination of live performance, lecturing, and prepared listening examples of classic recordings from jazz icons including Miles Davis and John Coltrane, jazz saxophonist and clinician Shenole Latimer educates his audience about how to follow along with jazz tunes, as well as what is involved with learning how to listen to and appreciate music from the jazz

Dr. Kirby Jolly     A collection of Civil War Music
DR. KIRBY JOLLY received his Ph.D. from New York University and has been active at all  levels of Music Education from elementary through college. He was profoundly influenced by the many years he performed with the famed GOLDMAN BAND, being featured at Lincoln Center as cornet soloist and guest conductor. He is a talented and seasoned conductor and trumpet virtuoso, whose background ranges from symphony orchestras and Broadway theater to Artict/Clinician for a major musical instrument manufacturer. Dr Jolly's efforts as director of his Civil War OLD BETHPAGE BRASS BAND since 1977, has earned  him well-deserved  praise and admiration. The O B B B was featured on national television in the stirring PBS documentary "THE CIVIL WAR'. Now, he will visit East Islip Public Library to discuss and illustrate the Music of the Civil War.

New York-born violinist Akiko Kobayashi is an enthusiastic solo and chamber music player who has established herself as a performer of musical sensitivity and probing intellect and often praised for her fluid combination of technical facility and warmth of expression. Now, she will grace East Islip Public Library and discuss and demonstrate the different styles of "20th century music" and the variety of styles that suddenly blossomed"

Like so many talented musicians hailed from Long Island such as Billy Joel, Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper and Johnny Maestro, J.K. Hodge is an extraordinary gifted piano player and song writer." Harlem String Quartet
The Harlem Quartet, comprised of First Place Laureates of the Sphinx Competition, has a unique and challenging mission: to advance diversity in classical music while engaging young and new audiences through the discovery and presentation of varied repertoire, highlighting works by minority composers. Dedicated to education, community engagement, as well as to superb classical performance, this innovative and daring all-Black and Latino string quartet serves as Principal Faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy. Now they will be providing the East Islip community with a Master class series, where they will discuss their history of music as well as demonstrate their skills to the audience.
