Latin American Festival

The Islip Arts Council will be holding a Latin American Festival this Summer at the Great South Bay YMCA's Boulton Center for the Performing Arts in Bay Shore. This Festival is due to the generous support of Senator Owen Johnson.

The new, hot and exciting group called “Manué” will give a free performance at the Great South Bay YMCA’s new Boulton Center in Bay Shore at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 13th. Showcasing music that encompasses rock, salsa, bossa nova and jazz, the five musicians plus dancer will provide seventy-five minutes of non-stop music for their fortunate audience.
Fresh from a triumphant sold-out performance at Queens Theatre in the Park and Lincoln Center’s “La Casita” outdoor festival, Manué is a must-see show, but tickets are required for this free event. New York City’s newest dance organization, devoted to Mexico’s folkloric dance and cultural heritage, entertains at the Great South Bay YMCA’s Boulton Center on Saturday, June 16th. Calpulli is named after Aztec clans who won recognition for the contributions to the well-being of their sociey. The Calpulli Dance Campany, in turn, contributes to their audience’s knowledge, pride and delight with their professional show which overflows with live music, theatre, legends and stories of Mexican history.

Foncho Castelar, composer, lyricist, vocalist, multi-instrumental player, author and educator, will perform at the Great South Bay YMCA’s Boulton Center with his musical group, Los Alegres de Colombia. The only Colombian ensemble dedicated to the interpretation and preservation of Colombian folkloric and popular music, Foncho Castelar and Los Alegres have promoted the cumbia and vallenato rhythms in such cultural venues as the Queens Theatre in the Park, Hostos and Hartford Colleges, Museum of Natural History and many arts festival.
