New York Philharmonic Free Concert
Heckscher State Park

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I get there?
Although the concert begins at 8:00 pm, many audience members arrive much earlier. We suggest you try to arrive before 6:00 pm to avoid traffic congestion.

Can I bring food?
Yes, you are allowed, even encouraged, to bring food. It is recommended, since an earlier arrival is suggested, that you bring enough food for dinner, as well as a post-concert snack, before going to leave the park. The majority of the audience leaves immediately and a delayed departure will help you avoid traffic congestion leaving the park.

Do I need a chair?
The concert is held in the North Field of Heckscher State Park. Chairs and or blankets are recommended.

Is there handicapped parking available?
There is handicapped parking available. For further details, call the park at 631-581-2100.

Is there a fee?
The concert is a free concert. Parking fees of $8 per car are charged by the State until 5:00 pm. After 5:00, contributions of $10 per car are requested, BUT NOT MANDATORY! These contributions are then split 50/50 between the Natural Heritage Trust and the New York Philharmonic Free Concert Committee of Long Island.

Will I be able to hear the concert from the back of the field?
The New York Philharmonic has an elaborate speaker system that is distributed throughout the field and the concert can be heard from anywhere on the field. The concert can not be heard if you are sitting behind the stage or in the median of the roadway.

Are there bathrooms?
Portable toilets are available along the roadway. A bathroom building is located at Parking Field #2. Extra toilet paper will be available at the Mobile Units.

Is there anything to eat or drink there?
Suffolk County Water Buffalos will be available free on the field by the roadway. There will also be a concession tent on the field. The proceeds from the stand will not go to the concert.

What happens if someone gets hurt?
A first aid station will be set up at the traffic circle by the field. If anyone gets hurt, please notify either the first aid station, the volunteers, the park police, or the staff at the mobile units and help will be there immediately.

Is there any telephone available?
Public telephones are available at the bathroom building at Parking Field #2.

Where are the raffles and posters sold?
Raffles and Posters will be sold at the Mobile Units on the South side of the field. Raffle tickets are $5 per ticket or $20 per book or buy 2 books at $40 and third book is FREE. Posters are $25 each.
